Positano is one of the hidden gems of the Amalfi Coast, Italy, popular with jet-setters and honeymooners alike. Positano started out as a local fishing village and is still not as commercialized as other towns along the Amalfi Coast like Sorrento and Amalfi. It also doesn’t get the amount of cruise ship tourists that these towns get.
The town itself has a one way road that winds down and then up through the town. There are also stairs built into the cliffs that take you in between the houses or hotels up the hill. There is a shopping area in the main town portion that eventually turns into a pedestrian only area, full of unique shops, cafes, gardens and even a few hidden hotels. This area eventually winds down towards the beach area.
Down by the water, there are several public beach areas and a few private fee based beaches as well, where you can sit and soak up the sun. There’s also a great boardwalk where you can shop, grab an iced cappuccino and just gaze around.
From the beach area, you can also hire private boats to take you along the Amalfi coast. Or you can take a number of ferries to other places like the Islands of Capri or Ischia and the towns of the Amalfi Coast like Sorrento or Amalfi.
Because of it’s size the town takes a bit of planning to get to. The nearest airport is Naples International. From there you can either take a bus to Sorrento and catch another bus to Positano. You could also get a private car or a shuttle to drive you directly from the airport to your hotel in Positano. The drive is about an hour and 15 minutes and you can find a variety of car or shuttle services online.
You may also hire a self driven car to explore in freedom as you drive along. car-rental-italy provides you cars on hire from a wide range and of fleet they have on offer. They provide car rentals economically, especially to the tourists, with customized packages. So take pleasure to explore the place with your hired set of wheels taking you places and enjoy your holiday to the core.
